Der Nachfolger von "Tannöd", ihrem Erstlingswerk, mit dem Schenkel den Deutschen Krimipreis 2007 gewann, basiert abermals auf einer wahren Geschichte. Und abermals arbeitet die Autorin den Fall anhand von Vernehmungsprotokollen und Zeugenaussagen auf, wieder passt sie ihre Sprache dezent dem Lokalkolorit und der Zeit an. Im Zentrum von "Kalteis" steht neben dem zunächst namenlosen Täter eine junge Frau: Kathie, die in München nach Arbeit sucht und in die Gesellschaft einiger Prostituierter gerät. Unterschwellig macht Schenkel klar, dass eben diese Frau dem Mörder zum Opfer fallen wird - nur wann? Und wer der zahlreichen Männer in der Umgebung des Mädchens ist der Böse? Andrea Maria Schenkel empfiehlt sich hiermit erneut als originellste Genreautorin Deutschlands - auch wenn ihr Zugriff beim zweiten Werk nicht mehr ganz so überraschend ist.
